At Makani Kai Farms, we will be generating our power from solar energy, using compostable growing mediums, organic seeds, and the finest quality nutrients.

With 90% less water and 80% less fertilizer required than conventional farming, regulating all that goes in and out of our container means fostering the perfect environment for our plants to be successful.

Designed to maximize yield from a small space. Capable of harvesting 4320 heads of leafy greens and over 1000 linear feet of microgreens from only 320 sq ft.

Producing more with less allows for more land to be dedicated to wild and natural spaces, and the allocation of valuable resources towards projects most in need.

This farm can be picked up and placed virtually anywhere; In very tight spaces, rooftops, and parking lots of schools, hospitals, and restaurants. Helping sprout hyperlocal produce and minimizing freight pollutions.

Cutting down on the produce we import from around the globe and replacing it with fresh locally grown alternatives, is the key to sustaining the future of food safety in Hawai'i.

Not only does this improve the quality of what we ingest, but contributes to curbing carbon emissions from the ships, planes, and ground vehicles that deliver our food daily.

We bring our product direct to consumers, supplying businesses from their backdoor and offering our greens at farmers markets.

1.3 billion tons of food is wasted yearly worldwide by supermarkets, restaurants, and consumers alike.

50% is wasted before it even reaches our plates.

Whether it be a result of drought or pests that ruin a whole seasons harvest, improper care during transit, or deliberate discarding, there must be a shift in how we interact with what we eat.

Our system eliminates many of the factors responsible for crop loss through a consistent and controlled environment. We do not run the risk of fluctuating yields due to weather or invading species.

Complications of harvesting and handling have been eradicated by simplifying logistics and keeping it local.

Extended shelf life means more chance to enjoy what you love.

Growing Interest

Education is At The Heart

The average age of farmers in Hawai'i is sixty and the state does not have a farming workforce capable of producing for the needs of its own people. A primary cause of the shortage of new farmers in Hawai'i during the past several decades has been the decline in support for agriculture education from the state government.

We will be working with the Hawai'i school boards to bring students opportunities to cultivate their own crops and eventually operate their own farms!

Empowering Waves

With 92% of food being imported to Hawai'i, we want to put the power of food security into the hands of those willing to take charge. Our systems are simple and easy to use, making for a user friendly experience regardless of prior knowledge and background.

Including All Ages

We will be working with our community's CSA and Kapuna programs to deliver to those most in need, donating portions of our harvests each month.

In the near future we will be offering tours of our farm and workshops for anyone interested in having a Cropbox of their own someday!
